A high school senior in West Virginia is headed to college after receiving a hefty scholarship from a community foundation.
The Tucker Community Foundation awarded $109,950 in scholarships from more than 45 different scholarship funds for high school and college students in Barbour, Grant, Mineral, Preston, Pocahontas, Randolph, and Tucker counties, WV, and Garrett County, Md.
The awards ranged from $400 to $8,000 with most in the $1,000 to $2,000 range, per the foundation's website.
"Just because a student does not qualify for one scholarship does not mean they would not qualify for another," Michael Moore, the foundation's CFO, tells the Herald-Mail.
Alexander Schmidle, a senior at Preston County High School, will attend Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va., after receiving a $25,000 scholarship, per the foundation's website.
