Kim Cobb is the director of Brown University's Institute at Environment and Society, but she's also a professor of environment and society and Earth, environmental, and planetary sciences.
So when the Ivy League school in Providence, RI, offered her a full-time position in 2022, Cobb figured she could help people grapple with the climate issues they're facing year in and year out.
"As an institute, IBES researchers have really embraced that idea and have worked very hard the last 10 years to make that idea a reality," she tells the Providence Journal.
Cobb's institute is known for its cutting-edge research on climate change and other environmental issues, and its students are some of the best in the country in their fields.
Many of them go on to pursue careers in climate and sustainability-focused fields.
"I've seen many students empowered through this work and use that experience to help shape their future," says Cobb.
