Gntc'S Adult Education Program Prepares Students for Success

When it comes to getting a high school equivalency diploma, Georgia Northwestern Technical College has a program for you.

Or at least that's what the state wants you to do.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Gov.

Nathan Deal has signed an executive order making GNTC's adult education programs available for free to anyone who hasn't graduated from high school in the US or Canada and is at least 18 years old.

"For many adults, lack of a High School Equivalency or lack of proficiency in English skills prohibits them from reaching their career and educational goals," Lisa Shaw, GNTC's vice president of Adult Education, says in a press release.

"Our program offers training opportunities, support for students transitioning to college, and workshops related to soft skills and digital literacy."

Under the state's Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 17, who have a high school withdrawal document, can enroll in GNTC's adult education program for free.

Students under age 18 have to be part of a program to get their HSE testing restrictions waived.

"Many of the young adults that come to us lack the transportation to come to class, so having the small transportation that we offer can help to offset the costs
