Northern Cass Elementary School teacher Jessica Stoen is a Milken Educator Award winner.
Stoen thought State Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler was holding an all-school assembly about the school's personalized learning pilot.
The prestigious national honor comes with a $25,000 cash prize that Stoen can use however she chooses.
The award was created by philanthropist and education visionary Lowell Milken in 1987.
